About the Twin Cities

Situated a short distance north of the Golden Gate Bridge in central Marin County are the "Twin Cities" - the Town of Corte Madera and the City of Larkspur. Contained within the eight square miles which make up the Twin Cities are 9,580 housing units which hold 21,000 residents.

Though primarily residential in character, commercial areas and shopping centers are spread throughout the communities, drawing shoppers to the cities from surrounding communities. An increase in housing units is anticipated, as is some commercial development. The Twin Cities have become the medical and educational center for central Marin County, bordering the County Hospital and containing numerous convalescent hospitals as well as many medical centers and schools. A daily student influx is in excess of 15,000 who range in age from preschoolers to adults enrolled in college classes.

The topography of the Twin Cities is varied, encompassing steep slopes, gently rolling hills, flatlands and marshlands. The cities have a moderate year round temperature and average yearly rainfall of approximately 40 inches.

About the Twin Cities Police Authority

The Twin Cities Police Authority was formerly the two independent police departments of Corte Madera and Larkspur. To enhance the level of police services, the departments were combined by a joint powers agreement in January 1980, the first such amalgamation in the State.

The Twin Cities Police Authority is directed by a single Chief of Police who works directly with a Management Committee consisting of the City/Town Managers, and reports to the Police and City/Town Councils on a variety of issues.

The Twin Cities Police Authority consists of 31 sworn personnel, and 10 non-sworn. It is organized into two divisions - Operations (Patrol and Traffic) and Support (Investigations, Administration, Communications, and Juvenile).

The Twin Cities Police Authority is looking for enthusiastic, self-starting candidates who can handle the requirements of the position and also contribute innovative ideas for the overall development of the department.
